About Elysano
A small, free tool that does one job well: get an image onto a receipt printer.
Elysano started with a very ordinary problem. A cheap 80 mm USB receipt printer (a POS-8370) sat on a desk, and there was no simple way to print a logo, a QR code or a photo on it. The manufacturer's tools were Windows-only, outdated or required installing drivers of unknown origin. On a Mac there was nothing at all.
Modern Chromium browsers can talk to USB devices directly through the WebUSB API. That made it possible to build the whole thing as a web page: open it, pick your printer in the browser's own dialog, drop in an image and print. No installation, no account, no upload.
What Elysano does
- Converts any PNG, JPG, GIF or WebP image into the 1-bit bitmap a thermal printer understands, with a choice of dithering methods.
- Shows an exact preview of every dot before anything is printed.
- Sends standard ESC/POS commands — the same command language almost all receipt printers use — directly over USB.
- Works with generic 58 mm and 80 mm printers on macOS, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS in Chrome, Edge and Brave.
Privacy by design
Everything happens on your own computer. Your image is processed by JavaScript in your browser tab and goes straight to the printer; it is never sent to a server. That is not a policy promise layered on top — the site simply has no backend that could receive it. Details are in our privacy policy.
Why it is free
Elysano is free for personal and commercial use. Hosting, the domain and maintenance are paid for by the advertisements shown on the pages and by affiliate commissions when you buy a printer or paper through our Amazon links. Ads are kept away from the print controls so they never get in the way of the tool. See the terms and ad disclosure.
Who runs it
Elysano is built and operated by Jure Zlak s.p., a small independent software business in Slovenia. It is not affiliated with Epson, Xprinter, Zjiang or any other printer manufacturer; product names are used only to describe compatibility.
